Informal bookbinding workshop- for those wanting help with their own particular bookbinding projects

Summer Fayre at Oriel y Parc

Saturday 4th August 10am-4pm
 Stalls throughout the courtyard from local artists, crafts makers and tasty treats.
Live music and childrens Mermaid and Pirate Party (Extra fee applies).
Fayre is FREE entry

Bookmaking Workshop 12th September 2014

A one day, crash course on bookbinding - how to create your own books from scratch: basic sketch books to display, expanding and decorative structures.
Using a hands-on, investigative approach, learn the essential techniques for creating successful projects.

Rings and screws
Coptic

B) Hands on construction of a concertina book using basic techniques:
Folding corners
Soft v hard covers
Pages- Concertina folds
Signatures
Flyleaf /endpapers
Spacing holes and making jigs
Adding ties and closings

Putting it all together in an individual project: Hopefully there will be time to at least plan and begin an individual project of your own choosing.

Tools /Materials suggestion list

Please bring any of the following that you might like to use during the workshop or use the basic materials which will be supplied at cost

Pieces of thick card- eg mountboard or greyboard

wrapping papers- eg interesting paper bags, packaging, gift wrap, advertising flyers, pages from magazines..... etc

cords and ribbons
2 or 3mm ribbon can be great for coptic binding
wider pieces of ribbon or tape for 'ties'
threads- embroidery/stitching
fine cords
hairy string?- eg garden twine-not plastic

embellishments eg lace, decorative pictures, fabric,beads, buttons, anything you think might be useful

tools- scissors- I use a big pair for cutting paper and a small pair for fiddly bits
a ruler – both for measuring and as a cutting edge
a craft knife / stanley knife
board to cut on
a bradawl with a point and tools for making holes
darning size needle
a paintbrush for glueing
